Aloha kākou!

We were happy to meet many of you on Sunday, January 13, 2013 at the very exciting TEDxMaui event at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center (MACC).  We were thrilled to see you enjoying our tea samples at our PONOinfusions booth.  We hope that you enjoyed all of the engaging sessions and dynamic ideas shared at TEDxMaui.  We certainly did!  As PONOinfusions, it was such an honor to serve samples of our teas to everyone and to introduce our brand new venture to Maui!

Through our blog, we aim to keep you abreast of new developments and exciting updates about PONOinfusions!  We will likely have our products available for sale in stores by late Spring/early Summer 2013, and via our e-commerce website ( shortly thereafter.  We will also be launching a Kickstarter campaign ( this February/March to help us raise funds to launch our first batch of teas and herbal infusions.  Stay tuned for more information about our upcoming Kickstarter campaign!

Through our PONOinfusions blog, we aim to accomplish the following:

First of all, we hope to use this blog to familiarize you with our brand, our personality (we are fun, creative and curious!), and our mission as a company to be a productive and responsible member of the Maui community and of the planet as a whole.  We are launching with what we feel to be a very unique and delicious introductory line of teas.  This initial line is called our ahupua’a line, and it is made up of the following five blends:

  • Lani (the sky/heavens)
  • Mauna (mountain/volcano)
  • Wai (fresh water)
  • Nahele (forest)
  • Kai (ocean)

These five blends are those we served at TEDxMaui.  Our brand tells the story about each section of the ahupua’a (traditional Hawaiian land and community division from the mountain to the sea).  Each ahupua’a can be considered its own watershed and local community.  As responsible stewards of Maui's ahupua’a's, we strive to communicate to our customers the importance of natural resource conservation and endangered species preservation in the Hawaiian islands.

We also hope to use our blog to initiate thought-provoking, engaging conversations.  Among the topics we hope to feature are: teas and herbal infusions; health and wellness; Hawaiian culture; corporate social responsibility and what it means to be a business that aims to support its community and beyond; "eco-friendly" and responsible packaging and products; sustainable agriculture; and more generally, what sustainability means on Maui and in Hawai'i, as well as in developing countries where several of our ingredients are sourced.

Whew... that sounds like a lot, and we are looking forward to many interesting postings to come!

We welcome you all to send us comments on our blog entries, and to provide suggestions and feedback on what we are doing well, or where we can improve via the Contact Us tab (

Mahalo nui loa for your support and enthusiasm!

A hui hou,

Alex and Andrea de Roode
